There is tons of stuff I&#8217;d like to post about but don&#8217;t have the time &#8212; such as the recent controversial (and problematic) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newyorker.com\/fact\/content\/articles\/070305fa_fact_hersh\">Seymour Hersh article<\/a>, Egyptian political news such as constitutional &#8220;reform&#8221; and the ever-growing number of strikes (covered so well by <a href=\"\/arabawy\">Hossam<\/a>), developments within the Muslim Brotherhood (see the interviews on <a href=\"http:\/\/justworldnews.org\/\">Helena Cobban&#8217;s blog<\/a>). So here are a  few quick links, mostly on Egypt:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/electronicintifada.net\/v2\/article6619.shtml\">How Barack Obama learned to love Israel<\/a> by Ali Abunimah, Obama&#8217;s groveling AIPAC speech is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aipac.com\/351_2776.asp\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Arabs reiterate 2002 initiative, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jpost.com:80\/servlet\/Satellite?cid=1171894571451&amp;pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FPrinter\">Israel says no<\/a> to return of Palestinian refugees.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Egypt in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sundaytimes.co.za\/News\/Article.aspx?id=403401\">diplomatic row<\/a> over alleged execution of Egyptian war prisoners by Israeli forces in 1967.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Lebanese journalist Serena Assir has a blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/freespacebeirut.blogspot.com\/index.html\">Freespace Beirut<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Marc Lynch has a Guardian piece on the <a href=\"http:\/\/commentisfree.guardian.co.uk\/marc_lynch\/2007\/03\/brotherhood_of_the_blog.html\">Brotherhood of the blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Lawrence Pintak follows up on the US\/Egypt tiff over the Iraqi insurgent channel <a href=\"http:\/\/uscpublicdiplomacy.com\/index.php\/newsroom\/pdblog_detail\/070228_war_of_ideas_update_us_1_insurgents_1\/\">Zawraa<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Maria Golia on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailystar.com.lb\/article.asp?edition_id=1&amp;categ_id=5&amp;article_id=80166\">The subsistence math of Egypt&#8217;s neglected workers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Last but certainly not least, Baheyya on the <a href=\"http:\/\/baheyya.blogspot.com\/2007\/03\/perils-of-succession.html\">perils of the succession<\/a>, hammering the point that I&#8217;ve been telling anyone who&#8217;ll listen about the fundamental uncertainty and risk of the Gamal scenario. As is increasingly argued, there is an analogy to be made with the crisis of 1951-52 &#8212; most notably the Cairo fire &#8212; and a growing risk of political violence (both spontaneous and calculated) in the next few years. Some even hope for it, thinking it will be the last straw that forces army intervention. I find this line of reasoning among some radical activists, but the other night at a dinner I heard a wealthy, well-connected, pro-regime, prominent society woman say &#8220;This country is on the brink of a crisis. The army has to intervene. We won&#8217;t democracy, but we&#8217;ll have order.&#8221; Like Baheyya, I don&#8217;t think we&#8217;re about to see the Mubarak regime collapse but the degree of uncertainty has grown tremendously. I am also concerned about the long-term impact of the exclusion of the Brothers from political participation and the ongoing rape of the constitution.
