{"id":2642,"date":"2008-07-08T07:43:23","date_gmt":"2008-07-08T07:43:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/amrani.cc\/wp\/?p=2642"},"modified":"2008-07-08T07:43:23","modified_gmt":"2008-07-08T07:43:23","slug":"2008-7-8-market-islam-html","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/amrani.cc\/wp\/?p=2642","title":{"rendered":"Market Islam"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-src=\"v5\">I was asked a while back to contribute a guest <a href=\"http:\/\/newsweek.washingtonpost.com\/postglobal\/islamsadvance\/2008\/07\/lifestyle_islamism.html#more\">post<\/a> to Washington Post reporter Jack Fairweather&#8217;s blog  &#8220;Islam&#8217;s Advance&#8221; (about &#8220;Islam influencing and adapting to the modern world&#8221;). <\/p>\n<p>I ended up writing on a phenomenon that has interested me for a while, every since I read Patrick Haenni&#8217;s great book &#8220;L&#8217;Islam de March\u00e9&#8221; (&#8220;Market Islam&#8221;), which I think unfortunately has never been translated into English: Islamic &#8220;branding&#8221; and Islamic consumer lifestyles. I also got to use one of my own all-time favourite interview anecdotes: the time a young Islamic TV preacher quoted Brian Adams to be to explain the concept of submission to Allah. <\/p>\n<p>The post just skims the surface of what is a complex and interesting subject.
