The writing at the bottom says “the new Midan Ramses” and the pic refers to the recently moved statue of Ramses II from Downtown Cairo to the future site of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza.
Scary thing is that it might just happen. The metro station there is already called “Mubarak”…
(Thanks to reader KK for the pic.)
great sculpture, i like it!
This is Egypt or Mubarak land? I wouldn’t be surprised if it is named after Mubarak coz most of these dictator leaders make it compulsory for it nation or people to hang or to name anything after him!!!! Mubarak the haramiya!!!!
Issandr, this is HILARIOUS!!!!!:))))
Thanks Issandr, i have not stopped laughing yet!
There have been widespread rumours that they are actually planning on changing the name of the cirlcle to Midan Mubarak. I dont know if there has been any official announcement to that effect. Does anyone have more solid information?
Maybe it’s part of the latest http://theegyptian.wordpress.com/2006/09/03/a-quarter-century-of-achievement/“ title=”Quarter Century of Achievement” rel=”nofollow”> PR campaign .
In the press conference given on the day the statue was moved Zahi Hawas dismissed the rumour that the name of the midan will change as ridiculous. “Midan El Opera is still called Midan El Opera.” He exclaimed rather dramatically.
