Conversations at Thanksgiving dinner last night (mostly Egyptians of various religions) generally went like this: “I would have never thought I’d say this, but we need to help out Farouk Hosni.” One suggestion was to circulate a petition along the lines of “Farouk Hosni is a scumbag, but…” Among this extremely liberal crowd, the attack on Hosni is seen as an attack on secular values and the ability to speak your mind out. Among a certain segment of Egyptian society (in this case it was more artists and writers rather than wealthy people) the thoughts that Farouk Hosni expressed in his honey-drizzled comments to al-Masri al-Youm (“women are like delicate flowers that must be admired,” etc…) are self-evident. Egypt has gone through a surge of conservatism in the past two decades and many people from this milieu feel almost betrayed by their country. What Hosni said out loud is routinely uttered sotto voce. But I wonder if some frank dialogue might not be more useful than the delicate, elaborate scaffolding of white lies that most people generally hide being when discussing this type of issue.

where did you get the turkey ?-) It has vanished from the markets i know in cairo after the bird flue scandal. have been asking in may places in vain. Please tell me where can i get it. for me this the best and most healthier meat you could eat. Thanks
Oh, and i was supposed to comment on Hosni affair. here it comes. I think, as some consiparcy theorist put it, it can be a stged incident performed to distract people from a more seriuous happening to take place, most probably has to do with gamal mubarak’s ascendence to the crown. do you agree?
My initial reaction is that I would love for Farouk Hosni to be strung up by the neck, first for being a cretin, and second for his anti-Islamic agenda. On further reflection, though, it would be better for him to be completely ignored.
The notion of taking him to account for his words and making an example of him is a tempting one, so that next time he and his fellow cretins think twice before publically insulting a religion. However, it would make a martyr out of him, which is especially bad given that he is about as significant as discarded bateekh rinds.

rofl. i think there are better ways of distracting people from gamal ascendency. Making anti veil comment is probably not one of them but 10/10 for imagination though! He has potentially put himself in mortal danger by his words….expensive distraction, no?
I agree with what Hosni said regarding the veil, they do not shock me and I like to believe that a lot of peple share his opinion, although they’re becoming a minority.
I also believe he is entitled to have this opinion, and the freedom to express it, and the freedom to interpret his religion (Ijtihad).
Nevertheless, I condemn Hosni’s failiure to mention the real reasons behind the rise of conservatism that he was bragging about. One of them being the system, the dictatorship, which he is part of, and that destroyed our culture and changed us much more than conservatism or veils !

ربما أخطأ Ù�اروق Øسني وزير الثقاÙ�Ø© Ù�ÙŠ تصريØاته يوم الخميس الماضي لـ«المصري اليوم» Øول الØجاب.. ربما أساء التعبير عن رأيه، أو ظن أن الأمر قد يخضع لنقاش ÙˆØوار.. ربما نسي أن الأمر يتعلق بÙ�رض إسلامي أو واجب – Øسب آراء العلماء – وربما أراد التراجع والتÙ�سير والتØليل، دون أن يشعر بأن سكين «الذبØ» تØÙ� رقبته.
ربما.. ولكن يبدو أننا أصبØنا أكثر التهاباً واØتقاناً واشتعالاً.. لدينا أزمات وأوجاع من النظام والØكومة.. وأردنا تÙ�ريغها Ù�ÙŠ «Ù�اروق Øسني»، رغم أنه معروÙ� بنظاÙ�Ø© اليد ونزاهة «الثروة»، ولم يتهم يوماً بالÙ�ساد علي مدي ٢٠عاماً قضاها Ù�ÙŠ وزارة الثقاÙ�Ø©.
هذا ليس دÙ�اعاً عن Ù�اروق Øسني.. Ù�أنا مختلÙ� معه Ù�ÙŠ رأيه Øول الØجاب.. ولكنه سؤال كبير وضخم Øول هذا الØزب، «الذي «اØتار Ù�يه دليل العقلاء والمجانين».. الØزب الوطني تØول Ù�جأة بأعضائه الموقرين Ù�ÙŠ مجلس الشعب إلي «مØطة كهرباء»، تتطاير منها الشظايا، وتÙ�ور بداخلها البراكين، دÙ�اعاً عن الدين، وتجريØاً لوزير زل لسانه، ويبØØ« عن «مخرج كريم».. الØزب الموقر الذي يتهم معارضيه بالانتماء والتعاطÙ� مع «الإخوان المسلمين»، تبدل Ù�جأة و«ركب ذمته» وصلي ركعتين لله، وتوكل علي المولي الخالق.. وقرأ الشهادتين و«كبر وبسمل» ÙˆØ°Ø¨Ø Ù�اروق Øسني.
كان Ù�ين الدين والشرÙ� والنزاهة Ù�ÙŠ انتخابات مجلس الشعب الأخيرة، التي شهدت أضخم Øملة تزوير وشراء الأصوات والبلطجة.. كان Ù�ين الدين وقرارات Ù…Øكمة النقض ببطلان انتخابات الدوائر تنهال علي «رأس المجلس الموقر – سيد قراره – وسيد المواقÙ� المشرÙ�ة»؟!
Ù�اروق Øسني الذي «قاطع الØزب» منذ سنوات، Øانت الÙ�رصة للإطاØØ© به، Øتي لو كان الموقÙ� Ù„Øساب الإخوان المسلمين والتيار الإسلامي. Ù„Øظة الØساب السياسي جاءت Ù�ÙŠ أزمة دينية.. مش مهم.. المهم أن يزايد نواب الوطني علي الإخوان تØت القبة، ويطالبوا بإق
الته ومØاكمته، دون أن يستمعوا إليه.. وربما نسي الجميع – بمن Ù�يهم Ù�تØÙŠ سرور الÙ�قيه القانوني والدستوري – أن كل البيانات الموقعة Ù�ÙŠ جلسة أمس الأول بلا قيمة قانونياً، طالما لم يخضع الوزير للاستجواب.
اذبØوا Ù�اروق Øسني تØت أقدام مرشد الإخوان المسلمين، لأنه أخطأ ولم نمنØÙ‡ Øقوقه «الموعظة الØسنة ــ النقاش ــ الصÙ�Ø ÙˆØ§Ù„ØªØ³Ø§Ù…Ø Ù€Ù€ العÙ�Ùˆ عند المقدرة».
أصبت بالدهشة Øين علمت من مصادر مهمة أن قيادات «كبيرة» Ù�ÙŠ الØزب الوطني تمارس ضغوطاً قوية علي الرئاسة لإقالة Ù�اروق Øسني.. والأعجب أن الØكومة تؤيد هذا الموقÙ�.. وبذلك سوÙ� ÙŠÙ†ØµÙ„Ø ÙƒÙ„ شيء Ù�ÙŠ البلد، لأن الØزب الوطني والØكومة اتÙ�قا بعد طول صراع علي Ù…Øاربة المخالÙ�ين وقطع رؤوس المخطئين.. وبالطبع لم يتبق منهم سوي Ù�اروق Øسني.
انتهي الØزب الوطني والØكومة من Ù…Øاربة الÙ�ساد.. استعادا الهاربين Ù�ÙŠ الخارج، واستردت خزانة الدولة المليارات الهاربة معهم.. Øاسب الØزب ÙˆØكومته كل من أهدر الأموال العامة، ومارس الاØتكار والÙ�ساد العلني، تØت مظلة الØماية والاØتضان.. ÙˆÙ�رت الدولة Ù�رص عمل للعاطلين والمشردين Ù�ÙŠ الشوارع.. ووضعت Øداً للموت المجاني Ù�ÙŠ البر والبØر وداخل الأنÙ�اق وخارجها.. واطمأن نواب الشعب، ولم يعد لديهم ما «يصرخون» من أجله.. ونظراً للÙ�راغ ÙˆØالة البطالة البرلمانية.. قرروا التÙ�رغ لـ«تقطيع» Ù�اروق Øسني إرباً إرباً.. مثلما نسمع Ù�ÙŠ الأÙ�لام التاريخية.. قبل أن يمنØوه Ù�رصة الدÙ�اع عن Ù†Ù�سه.
أنا شخصياً أبارك «زواج المتعة» بين الØزب الوطني والإخوان – للعلم: زواج المتعة هو زواج بعض الوقت Ù�قط – ولكن أطلب Ù�قط إجابة واØدة من الØزب الوطني بقياداته ونوابه عن هذا السؤال: متي ستقدمون البلد قرباناً للإخوان المسلمين؟!.. وأسئلة أخري: مَنْ الذي ÙŠÙ�كر لكم يا سادة.. هل تجلسون مع النواب.. هل تدركون خطورة إقالة Ù�اروق Øسني، بسبب خطأ تراجع عنه.. هل تريدونها دولة «مكارثية» تديرها «مØاكم التÙ�تيش»؟
