I just received some news that three members of Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad Allawi’s family were kidnapped today, including his wife.
This is not confirmed yet, but it just keeps getting worse and worse, doesn’t it?
Update: Here’s the first item I see. It’s not his wife, but his cousin and his cousin’s wife, as well as another relative.

A posting on an Islamic Web site by a group calling itself Ansar al-Jihad group claimed responsibility for kidnapping three Allawi relatives, and threatened to behead them in 48 hours if their demands aren’t met.
They demanded that Allawi and his government release all female and male detainees in Iraq, and lift the siege on Fallujah.
“We promise Allah and his messenger that if the agent government doesn’t respond to our demands within 48 hours, they (the hostages) will be beheaded.”
Definitely bad news. But I’m more concerned about the 60-day state of emergency. Assuming sufficient voters were registered and Iraq was a vacation paradise, how could January elections be considered legit. so soon after the country came out of a state of emergency?
I feel bad for Allawi’s cousins, but I’m more worried about the state of emergency, his crackdown on the press, and reports of torture by the Iraqi police. Never mind the reports that he was involved in bombing movie theaters to impress the CIA back when…
Yes, I don’t have much sympathy for Alawi either. My point is more that the insurgents are getting more and more daring: broad daylight kidnappings, attacks near or in the Green Zone, etc…

US found Allowi a good source to covering up secrets as he is an iraqi-britian,ex-mi5 where trust was built. Making close allies with his oil-hungry [negotiations] I belaive its a terrible experience to hold ur disbeleif of something that money clearly over-rides..Neither in a position to speak his mind and to carry out iraqi legislated actions which they are near by impossible to comply with out US conformation[independance?]. Whereas due to the fact of continuing from his past puppet backround whereas tension would clearly rise higher and INFLAME a GREAT shock to the iraqi people!!!.by the iraqi public and certinaly by insurgents.due to the fact of involvment in materialistic invasion.An interest in helping for a better iraq doesnt involve controlling oil-rigs and stealing oil!!!!!! allawi’s cousins kidnapped….? wonder why……
