World Refugee Day: Help Iraqis

Click on the logo above to learn more about a campaign to get the White House to do more to help Iraqi refugees, the fastest growing refugee crisis worldwide. Refugees International is asking people to call the White House to ask them to increase the aid to Iraqi refugees to $290 million. Remember that, as we noted recently in a post on a recent Brooking report on Iraq’s refugee crisis, the US has given refugee status to only about 800 Iraqis since 2003, although new legislation will increase that to a still measly 7,000.

  1. … the US has given refugee status to only about 800 Iraqis since 2003, although new legislation will increase that to a still measly 7,000.

… but if the whole point is to “fight them over there, so we don’t have to fight them here,” why would we bring them over here?

  2. Shokran ya Issandr for your advocacy and work. At the Education for Peace in Iraq Center (EPIC) we also believe that the White House needs to increase aid to Iraqi refugees. We are supporting specific legislation in the House and Senate including H.R. 2256 and H.R. 1581. If you feel strongly about the responsibility of the United States to help Iraqi refugees, please visit us at http://www.epic-usa.org to petition Washington into action. In support of World Refugee Day, we will hand-deliver all letters to Congress this week. With enough letters, we will increase the number of Iraqis to more than a measly 7,000.
