  1. just a pedantic note: mukhabirat in persian refers to telecommunications, so that a public phone exchange for example, or a local office of the national/local telephone company would be called mukhabirat. the intelligence ministry, on the other hand, is referred to as vezarat-e ettela’at (more precisely perhaps, “information” ministry).

    from what i have heard, this linguistic difference has caused some funny situations for iranians visiting arab countries, for example syria, and asking around for a phone exchange.
