Doug Feith, your name will live in infamy

Doug Feith trots out a line about Saddam Hussein being part of an “international terrorist network” just as dangerous as al-Qaeda. This guy is truly shameless.

  1. The case for war would have been easy even if we didn’t claim he had WMDs? There’s a Simpsons episode where Springfield goes dry and the Duff Beer company says they’re sure people will love their new Duff Zero. Followed by a shot of the brewery going out of business.

I mean, really, is Feith completely nuts?

  2. why are we continually going back over this ground? who cares if the intel was wrong about WMD? Saddy Boy is gone. He ain’t coming back. Good riddance. We need to move on to the next task at hand. Destroying the PLO, Hamas, Fatah, Hezbollah, and while we are at it Syria and Saudia Arabia.

  3. in summing up President Bush’s government, there is something more basic than single decisions, disastrous as some of them have been that needs attention, and that is the systematic disregard for the truth and the relentless propaganda that it engaged in all these almost eight endless years.
Unfortunately lies and propaganda have worked. He was re-elected with a very high majority, and there still are americans who claim that Saddam Hussein was responsible for September 11. Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, the UN which, for once, was right, was in fact a hotbed of communist and latte-drinking pacifists, who, in addition, speak French, oh the horror!
This explains why Obama seems such a break from the past and why, I fear, he will not be elected.

  4. We are continually going over this (Nom de Doom) because hundreds of thousands of people have died since our government duped the American public into thinking that Iraq presented a direct threat to the US homeland. We are continually going over this because you and I (and every other US taxpayer) will be paying for this disastrous foreign policy (which as Steiglitz has famously pointed out – will cost upwards of $3 trillion) for generations to come. We will pay for this with poorer schools, fewer hospitals, inadequate infrastructure, and any other number of disadvantages. We should not make the mistake of allowing those who are responsible for such egregious policies (which they knew in fact to be false) to avoid being held accountable. If you want a safer world (and I don’t doubt that you do) I think we all know that the easiest road to this is a more humble US foreign policy.

  5. I think Nom de Spume was being sarcastic, and that his argument was that restating the obvious is pointless when clearly the American electorate is either sub-humanly stupid (in which case there’s no point in going over the obvious) or willfully complicit in the war crimes carried out in its name (in which case…). Take yer pick. Personally I think it’s both: that they would gleefully vote in someone who promised a winter campaign on Moscow to take out that globe trotting Trotsky bastard before he knocks down any more Manhattan real estate if Fox News told them to do so.
