Egyptian President Anwar al-Sadat’s widow, Jehan Sadat, was on the Daily Show the other night plugging her new book out on the occasion of 30 years of Egyptian-Israeli piece. It wasn’t quite as weird as her recent NYT interview (evidence #2312325345 it’s not a very good newspaper) but this has a great moment when Jon Stewart asks her whether there are any Arab leaders capable of pushing for peace at the moment and she says there are non. Check in at 3:00 of the video.

  1. The interview you link to is from the NYT Sunday magazine, a segment that features short interviews where the interviewer asks some odd and humorous questions. It is not the same thing as an interview in the New York Times and it's editorial standards must be completely different and looser.

Anyway, Sadat is also interviewed on Charlie Rose this week, for anyone interested.

  2. I kind of thought her answers were weird because she is 75 years old, and old people have odd opinions, and they are too old to care what other people think of them. As for the questions… that particular segment is always "condensed" from the real interview that took place (I think they even disclaim as much, in the segment itself somewhere), and sometimes you are left wondering how they got to the questions published.

Anyway. I have no idea why I'm commenting so much about something so trivial. 🙂
