  1. These predictions about armageddon and this war are not only prevalent in christiantiy, but in Islam too. Islam also discusses yoom al qiyama ‘armageddon’, and the war that will occur before it. But in Islam, contrary to christiantiy, believe that yoom al qiyama will come with the fall of Israel, as opposed to christianity where they believe armageddon will come when Israel finally has peace. You never know…maybe when Israel falls, they actually will be at peace. Maybe the two religions dont contradict each other. Either way, religious scholars are having a field day deciphering this war’s meaning.

  2. Hossam – you’ve never heard of this before? The American evangelical Right started getting excited about events in the Middle East as signs of the coming End Times back in ’67 when Israel captured all of Jerusalem…they’ve been having a field day in the last few years. This is one of the big reasons why evangelicals in the US support Israel so strongly, the Temple has to be rebuilt before Christ can return (and then of course all the Jews have to accept the Lord or go to hell just like everyone else). Supermarket tabloids in the States frequently have dramatic covers about whether global disasters and wars portend the coming of End Times.

    Here’s my favourite quick-and-dirty reference:

  3. Oh, of course I heard of them:) Who didn’t? But I can’t help shocked each time I read stuff like that.. but makes me feel good at least that those obscure religionists are not only on the Muslim side, but universal.
