Bush didn’t know about Muslim sects

Absolutely nothing surprising about this:

Former Ambassador to Croatia Peter Galbraith is claiming President George W. Bush was unaware that there were two major sects of Islam just two months before the President ordered troops to invade Iraq, RAW STORY has learned.

In his new book, The End of Iraq: How American Incompetence Created A War Without End, Galbraith, the son of the late economist John Kenneth Galbraith, claims that American leadership knew very little about the nature of Iraqi society and the problems it would face after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein.

A year after his “Axis of Evil” speech before the U.S. Congress, President Bush met with three Iraqi Americans, one of whom became postwar Iraq’s first representative to the United States. The three described what they thought would be the political situation after the fall of Saddam Hussein. During their conversation with the President, Galbraith claims, it became apparent to them that Bush was unfamiliar with the distinction between Sunnis and Shiites.

Galbraith reports that the three of them spent some time explaining to Bush that there are two different sects in Islam–to which the President allegedly responded, “I thought the Iraqis were Muslims!”

I bet he thought the word “Shiite” was pretty funny, too.

  1. and this is surprising how? bush isn’t a “details” guy. or a “thinking” guy. He’s not a big fan of “books” and “facts.” he’s kind of a slacker. and we put him in the Whitehouse twice. Hm . . maybe that wasn’t such a good idea.

  2. exactly. Breaking news! The US president is a moron!
I think that was pretty evident 6 years ago, but, oh,well.
“The terrorists are working hard to destroy us, and so are we.” George Bush.

    No kidding.

  3. George W Bush seems not to the brightest light around, that is already common knowledge.

What´s new indeed is the fact he doesnt even have competent folks surrounding him who explain certain things.

    bah, he´s a moron 😉

  4. Well, his own mother said that the American people have voted for the stupidest of her kids!

The problem is that it is this person who is defining who is a terrorist and who is not. Some kind of objective party should be responsible for that, I think.

  5. Truth be told, there are more than just Shiite, and Sunni Muslims. Islam seems to be going through big changes at the moment. And, just as Christian history tells us, they all believe that their way is the only way, unfortunately critical zealots who are willing to die have become a dime a dozen.
