Alliance between leftists and religious fanatics always ends miserably. You are not allies, Nasrallah will not lead securlarists to a future you desire.
And Che would never have hid in a bunker while his soldiers used children as human shields.
The new Ché? So what does that mean, exactly? The new guy who gets to run a political prison and murder innocent civilians in cold blood because they oppose his “revolution”? And gets a free pass from everyone because his does his mass murdering while saying he’s opposed to the US?
Ché Guevara was nothing more than a thug and an imperialist (his adventures in the Congo, to name one example). If that’s who Nasrallah is, it rather validates what Hezbollah’s opponents are saying about him.
I agree with Ajaii Burns, its fallacious comparing Che Guevara with Nasrallah, in fact that the Arab masses now worship the latter and not the former is a sign of the desperate times in the Arab/Muslim world.But roughly at the same time as Che, we in the Muslim world did have our own heroes, like comrades Ahmed Zaki, Hassan Nasir, Bizan Jazani, etc. who were very inspired by Che and died for their sins like Che.
That Hassan Nasrallah now commands the space vacated by people like Nasser should be a cause of concern for those who are ready for another imperialist onslaught on the Arab world.But the dilemma is precisely that most of the communist and secular-nationalist left remaining now in our lands is too weak to make a significant impact, is not drawing in younger cadres, and is producing little of theoretical value in terms of material analysis.
So until we can do something like that – produce an organic movement of workers peasants and intellectuals – we have to be patient with the likes of Hassan Nasrallah stealing the thunder from the left.Alliances between the left/secular nationalists always fail becaue both have contrasting, and conflicting goals.Just look at the price the people are paying for this is Iran, Pakistan, Indonesia, Iraq, Egypt, etc….
I’m not gonna waste my time replying to the comments about “hiding behind children” and this crap, as it is lie used by the Israeli army to justify their incompetence, stupidity, and unprofessionalism in war, that led them to kill this big number of civilians and hardly any HA fighters.

I’ve gotta agree with Adam – Che was a thug, and a killer. Socialism is a monumental failure, and anything modeled after it is bound to end in as much bloodshed, impoverishment, and injustice.
Although I wholeheartedly support Lebanon’s position, and the Palestinian cause, I do not think it is in their best interest to rally around Che Guevara. Perhaps Pol Pot would be a better role model.
All this says is that, years from now, Hassan Nasrallah will be a face vaguely familiar to 14 year old Lebanese kids who want to seem cool by wearing t-shirts with his face silk-screened upon them.
Hossam, do you know for a fact Israel killed hardly any HA fighters? I haven’t read anywhere any figures but the ones Israel claims (~530, I think). Even if Israel is grooooossly exagerating, that doesn’t make it “hardly any” dead. As far as I know, the Hizbullah has not released any casualty figures, real or imagined.
Anyway, it may not justify Israel’s actions to all, but to dismiss Hizbullah’s “blending in” with the general populace is, I think, the lie. And, look, if I was Hizbullah I’d do it myself. I’m not suggesting Hizbullah people are somehow uniquely evil for doing this. And maybe Israel did capitalize on the Hizbullah’s tactics to excuse Israel’s own errors, or to give it more leeway to be less careful around civilians, (or, if you prefer, to give it a pretext for its purposeful, vengeful assault on Lebanese babies, which surely was Israel’s aim all along) — but! That does not mean the Hizbullah didn’t operate from civilian areas, hide in civilian homes, fire rockets from beside civilian buildings, etc. That’s not “crap.” Even if you hate Israel and think everything it says is a lie, you can’t tell me this is all pie-in-the-sky fabrication.
